Profitable Valentine's Day promotion ideas for hair and beauty professionals

Okay sure, there's a recession, people seem to be spending less (especially in January as we tighten our belts after Christmas spending), but I have some really good news for you…

According to the latest research, half of your clients (and their partners/family members) will celebrate Valentines Day with gifts and luxury purchases, with the average person planning to spend $192.80 this year! (source) That's actually more than last year!

So, I hope that you're planning some special promotions and offers for Valentine's Day. From gift cards, to couple's packages, to special retail promos for self-care, there is so much you can do to give your clients options and help them celebrate by spending with YOU 😊

I asked my community of hair and beauty professionals if they would be generous enough to share their past promotions for Valentine’s Day… and I got some great responses! Read on for real ideas that had great success for these small business owners, take the ideas, and make them your own!

Hair Treatment Bliss with a Gift Certificate

“I market to women and do 99% women's hair, but for Valentines day I ran a Facebook and Instagram ad marketed to men who might be looking for something to gift their wife/girlfriend/mother for Valentines day. It was a scalp treatment, scalp massage, and blowout service. I priced it a little higher than my regular wash and blowout service, and all I had to do was buy a good scalp scrub, and add about 5 minutes to service time for a relaxing scalp massage. I used Canva to make a cute "gift certificate" to send them.

I sold 24 packages total. I charged $50 for each one, and I spent $7/day on advertising for 3 weeks. So I spent about $150 on the ad, and profited $1,200+ $230 tips.The women loved it, and many of them became return clients!”

So far I've only promoted it with one email to my email list, and 6 clients booked themselves in online (£1140 revenue), but I'm back at work from the Xmas break today so I'll be booking this in person for my clients at the end of their treatments in the run up to Valentines Day and pop it on my social media channels too - I'm going to run it through to April because the diary is already so busy that there are only a couple of gaps left to book in February. I would typically book around £4k worth of revenue for a limited edition Treatment like this before I switch it up for something new.”

“For Valentine's Day 2022, my salon offered 2 different specials. We offered a shampoo w/ style for $20 and shampoo, style, makeup, w/ lashes for $50. We only offered it February 11-12th (Valentine's weekend)

We had lots of fun and lots of clients come to see us! It was a good turn out.”

“I partnered with a local florist. We offered a Chocolate Dreams facial or massage. It included a single rose bouquet and a chocolate truffle that they got with the service. It was very popular.

We got sales, and lots of positive feedback. We were able to advertise in the flower shop as well and gained new clients from that, as well.”

A lot of people like having the add on services and some celebrate with friends and not just significant others so we were fully booked. Because of space and staff we ran it for the whole month of February, so clients didn’t have to just come on Valentine’s Day”
