Questions that clients are too embarrassed to ask their beauty professional (but they really want to know!)

Your clients have an absolute boatload of questions about hair, beauty, and skincare. We all wonder the most random and sometimes simple things… but we’re often embarrassed to ask for fear of sounding stupid or ignorant.

Your clients have questions like:

  • I feel like my hair falls out way too much, is that normal?

  • Do facials hurt?

  • Is it bad to buy skincare at the drugstore?

They sound simple, but these are all honest-to-goodness queries that your clients want to know, and usually they’re turning to Google to ask them.

But the truth is: You as a beauty professional can and should be a fount of knowledge for your clients, and you should be proactively answering the simple, weird, and sometimes “obvious” questions that clients have. You’re the expert, and they have SO many things they want to know!

Answering questions isn’t just about helping clients, either. It’s also about building your business! Creating content for Instagram, TikTok, emails, blogs, and Youtube is absolutely essential, but it can feel overwhelming to always come up with content ideas: “What do I talk about?”

When you answer commonly asked questions, you’re creating potentially viral content that clients will love, and it gives you endless things to talk about!

In this blog, I want to show you why answering the most simple (sometimes surprising) questions will be the magic that positions you as the go-to expert, and helps your clients learn more about hair, skin, and beauty!

Plus, I’m sharing a bunch of questions that your clients are searching for right now on Google, that they’d love you to answer!

Don’t overthink it: Answer the most basic, obvious questions to create viral magic!

We always tend to overcomplicate things, but trust me when I say: Your clients have simple questions, and you don’t need to impress anyone with tons of complicated knowledge, just explain things easily!

The questions I’m sharing below are simple… on purpose! You might feel like you’ve talked to your clients about them before, or that everyone already knows, but ask yourself if you’ve honestly been answering them and sharing them.

Even if you’ve already answered these questions somewhere else, go through it again! Many people won’t have seen it, and it’s good to have content in multiple different places.

So, where and how should you answer these questions? Here are some tips for you:

  • Your “Question and answer” content could be a video, or a written post, or just an Instagram photo with a photo, question on top, and a detailed caption.

  • The most popular places your clients are searching are Google and Youtube: if you turn these questions and answers into a blog post or video (or both) it can be a great way to get found by new clients!

  • You can create a weekly “Ask me anything” post on Instagram with you answering questions, and post it as a longer IGTV Video, or an Instagram Reel (and be sure to put your detailed answer in the caption)

  • These are also great pieces to send to your email list of clients! I recommend emailing at least once a month, and sharing a section about “Commonly asked questions” is such a good excuse to keep in touch.

  • If you’re posting your videos on Instagram, you can also turn this into a paid ad and reach more people!

  • Hot tip: Batch your content! Nicole Marie Melton recommends scheduling one content creation day a month. Don’t overthink or overcomplicate it.

  • Titles are everything! Keep them simple and think of it like a Google search: what would your clients search for? Instead of titling your video “Everything you want to know about lash extensions,” title it “Will lash extensions make my real lashes fall out?”

And one final tip I have for you before we get to the juicy part (the questions!): Just because another hairstylist or blogger or TikTok’er has done something before, doesn’t mean you can’t do the same!

Content gets re-used and recycled all the time, and chances are nobody will notice that you’re making content on the same topic as somebody else. And even if someone does know: trust me, they will not care! You put your own spin on it, and you explain things differently. That’s enough, and it’s enough for your clients.

The surprising questions your clients *really* want to know!

This list is a compilation of questions I’ve personally asked myself (or Googled), questions my friends and family have had (I asked!), plus the most commonly asked questions from Google, as I found on Answer The Public. ATP is such a cool tool that lets you see what questions people are asking, so you can get endless content ideas. Go ahead, search for something like “hair extensions”, “bikini waxing”, or “gel nails” and see what it comes up with.
